Serisa Fitz-James is a Filipinx Canadian creative from Vancouver, British Columbia. They are in their final year of studies at Emily Carr University of Art and Design. Serisa likes to create fun, humorous art that revolves around play, basketball, loss, love and longing.
Through comedy and colorful imagery Serisa explores what eats them alive, what keeps them up at night, and what keeps us all so far apart. Serisa is currently working on a comic about a travelling flower that rips its own legs off and still does not get what it wants.
For the theme of Milestones, Serisa has created a zine/installation called Rancho Bawang, that documents their artistic practice over a time frame of two months, the many failures and small successes included. The name Rancho Bawang (garlic ranch in English) relates to the nickname of the village in Philippines where Serisa’s family comes from. They are very honored to be showcasing work at this festival.
